Dear Campers and Parents,

It is with a joyous heart that I write to you.  I pray your Holy Week and Easter celebrations were refreshing as you recalled all that Jesus suffered in your place so that you would be forgiven.   All this guaranteed by Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead.  Joyous because of Jesus’ Resurrection, but I am also saddened by the decision we have been compelled to make about Camp Shetek for 2021.

As I write this, the Zuya Group Campground in Lake Shetek State Park – where we have housed our “Camp Shetek” campers – has not yet been opened to groups.  There is the remote possibility that it may open, but with numerous special restrictions per the current state guidelines.   Though the rest of the State Park is open – RV sites, etc – the State of Minnesota still has yet to figure out how and if the group cabins, with all of the close quarters that exist in each cabin, can safely be used.

They have told me that policies / guidelines are anticipated “any day now” from the State of Minnesota.  But nothing official has been released yet.  Looking at how late in the year it is getting, we felt we had to make a decision about Camp Shetek 2021.

Currently we are afraid once regulations have been posted we may not be able to finish planning out our Camp week while also being able to develop all the necessary plans to fit all of the COVID contingencies that will be necessary for a fun and safe camp.  And so we have made the difficult decision that Camp Shetek will not be held this summer in June, 2021.  We are sorry if this is a great disappointment to your children (or to you).

We plan to redouble our efforts to plan an extraordinary Camp experience for 2022.  It will be held during the week of: June 19 - 25, 2022.  We pray that restrictions will be removed by that time.

We all pray that this finds you well, getting vaccinated as you are able, so that we can more safely return to “normal”.

   In Christ,

Pastor James Renz and

Camp Shetek Counselors
